Custom Software Development

Custom software development is the right choice when your business has outgrown spreadsheets, or when ready-made tools force you to work around them. Instead of paying for features you do not use while missing the ones you need, you get an application built around how your business actually runs.

Daste Digital is a software development studio based in Timișoara, Romania, run by me, Stefan Poenaru. I have more than 9 years of experience building software, and I plan, build, and launch every project myself. You talk directly to the person writing the code.

Custom software I build

Custom web applications for customers, partners, or staff
SaaS platforms with accounts, payments, and dashboards
Internal tools that replace spreadsheets and manual processes
Client portals and online booking or quote systems
API integrations between the systems you already use
AI features connected to your own data and workflows

If the main goal is to remove repetitive work between existing tools, business automation may be faster and cheaper than a new application. If you need an assistant that handles a specific task, take a look at custom AI agents. I will tell you which one fits during the first conversation.

When custom software makes sense

Custom software is an investment, so it should solve a problem that is worth solving. It is usually the right call when:

  • Your team spends hours each week copying data between tools or spreadsheets
  • Your way of working is part of what makes your business different, and generic tools cannot support it
  • You are paying for several subscriptions that still do not cover the whole process
  • You want to turn a product idea into a real application that customers can pay for
  • An existing system has become too slow, too fragile, or too expensive to keep patching

If a ready-made product already covers your needs, buying it is usually the better decision, and I will say so. This guide can help you decide: custom software vs off-the-shelf.

How a project works

01

Understand the problem

We start with what you are trying to solve, who will use the software, and what success looks like for the business.

02

Define the scope

You get a clear roadmap with priorities, a timeline, and a quote, including what should be built now and what can wait.

03

Build in phases

The software is built in stages with regular updates, so you can see real progress and give feedback early.

04

Launch and hand off

After testing, the software goes live with handoff documentation, and further development can continue as your needs change.

Examples of software I have built

These products are live, so you can open them and try them yourself:

  • EU Fund Check is a web application that checks eligibility for a Romanian grant program. It has a rules engine that runs in the browser, user accounts, email alerts, and an AI assistant that cites its sources.
  • Blush Events is a SaaS platform for digital wedding invitations. It has customer accounts, self-service editing, online payments, and a real-time RSVP dashboard.

You can see the full details and screenshots on the projects page.

Technology

I mainly build with TypeScript, React, and Next.js, and deploy on Cloudflare, which keeps applications fast and reliable without a large infrastructure to manage. Where it is useful, I add AI models and third-party services for payments, email, and analytics.

Technology follows the project, not the other way around. If your business already depends on a platform, the first step is to check how the new software should work with it.

Why work with one developer

Working with a one-person studio is not the right fit for every project, and a very large system may need a larger team. For a focused product or internal tool, it has clear advantages:

  • No hand-offs. The person you explain the problem to is the person who builds the solution.
  • Direct communication. You always know who is working on your project and who to ask.
  • Clear ownership. Once the project is paid in full, the agreed deliverables are yours, as described in the terms of service.

Frequently asked questions

What is custom software development?

Custom software development means designing and building an application for one specific business and its processes, instead of adapting that business to a ready-made product. It can be a customer-facing web application, a SaaS product, an internal tool, or an integration between systems you already use.

How much does custom software cost?

The price depends on the scope: the number of user roles and workflows, the integrations, the data involved, and how much needs to be ready for the first release. I quote each project after a scoping conversation, and larger builds can be split into phases so you can decide on one stage at a time.

How long does it take to build custom software?

A focused internal tool or first product version usually takes weeks, while a larger platform takes months. You get a timeline with the proposal, and delivering in phases means something useful can go live before the whole roadmap is finished.

Who owns the code?

Under the terms of service, ownership of the final agreed deliverables transfers to you once the project is paid in full. Third-party tools and licenses keep their own terms, and those are identified during the project.

Can you work with my existing systems?

Usually, yes. Most business software has to work with something that already exists, such as a CRM, a payment provider, a spreadsheet, or an older application. I check what those systems allow during scoping, so any limitation is known before the build starts.

Do you work with companies outside Romania?

Yes. Daste Digital is based in Timișoara, Romania, and projects run remotely in English or Romanian, so your location does not limit the work.

What happens after launch?

You receive the handoff and documentation for what was built. If you want the software to keep evolving, ongoing support and further development phases can be agreed separately.
